I came across a subscription service for wine recently, and I thought “why not sign up”. My wine-buying habits recently have been: go to Trader Joe’s at the beginning of the week and buy several bottles for the week. Not a great strategy, but it worked. Having wine delivered to me that I know I’ll like sounded like a great idea.
Soon enough I received my wine tasting box, which I was supposed to use to rate the wines and answer a few questions on the web site. It took me a couple of weeks to have the time and space to set up my tasting environment, but I finally did it.
Next come the reds…
I’m going to cut this short, I liked the bold reds the best. I already knew this, but at least now I have data to prove it. Here’s what the web site said about my profile after comparing all of the wines:
“You love bold, fruit-flavored red wines with significant body – wines exploding with flavor. You enjoy meek wines about as much as an Enya album on slow speed.”
Yep, that’s true. I got into wines when I lived in Buenos Aires, Argentina for 7 months back in 2009-2010. That’s where I discovered the mixture of an Argentinean Malbec with a nice piece of steak is a divine combination. Since then, I have tried other wines, but always go back to the big red grapes. My favorite white wines are those from Salta, Argentina, so apparently my lesson in wine has been shaped by my experiences living abroad.
So that’s it: I like big red wines. If you want to give me wine as a gift, please take this into consideration.
